How Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, got so famous

Sporting ‘fro, bell bottoms, and platform shoes Michael Jackson set the stage with the 70s presence that no one will ever forget. His disco days presented paisley shirts and striped pants that were even more dizzying than the disco ball. As a new era entered, so did Michael with a more polished look complete with tuxedo shirts and dazzling black shoes. He then moonwalked into our lives in his loafers. Michael Jackson definitely was a thriller!

Whether he donned aviator glasses or theatrical costumes, Michael stepped out in style for each and very public appearance and event. He knew all eyes were on him and he insured that he was the center of attention. Many wondered if he ever wore the same outfit twice as he dressed his way up the fashion and music ladders to super stardom. What do you think made Michael Jackson such a hit? Why did so many millions of people follow him for decades? Was he just lucky? Did he just wake up each morning and throw something on? Hardly! Come on, guys, he innovated music videos! It was no accident or coincidence that he took center stage. He planned and organized. He was prepared. He made it that way. He celebritized himself. Michael Jackson understood public presence, stage presence, and digital presence. We all can learn something from the King of Pop on how to present ourselves in public, on stage, and digitally. For those of us who have a digital presence, we have to consider that Michael would never have a profile or digital presence that was incomplete or not thought out. He never would have attended a networking event in less than the most impact-ful clothing for that particular situation. He would never have been unprepared. Michael also insured that his digital presence – the Official Michael Jackson websites, videos, and anywhere you find him online — would make such an impact that even to this day has such a powerful punch that will never ever be forgotten. Why not learn a lesson or two from the King of Pop? Why not celebritize you?

Most People are Embarrassed by Their Profiles: Why take the risk of ruining your online reputation with a profile you’re ashamed of?

35% of people in the United States have their profiles on networking sites. That’s one-third of the population. However, PR-Usa.net reports that half of these people admit to being embarrassed by their profiles. Yasni.com, the world’s top people search engines conducted surveys and gathered thousands of votes about the beliefs and networking habits of networkers on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. Over 50% of survey participants admitted that they would be embarrassed if their boss, a teacher, or parent saw their profiles. Steffen Ruehl, CEO and Co-Founder of yasni.com stated that profiles that are not carefully and completely created can have a negative impact. He warns that people should take steps in order to protect their online reputation. So why take the risk with an embarrassing profile? Even if temporarily due to the reasons that most give– “I don’t have time… I don’t know how… I don’t have the money to hire someone.” If you’re going to be networking, then make it count! Why bother networking or being online (having a digital presence or having a website) at all?

You are not alone. I am here with you.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson sang it best and yet in this world of technology and creativity with networking, instant messaging, and e-mails many still feel alone. They feel as if there are no true connections and that their networking efforts are fruitless. Simply connecting, connecting, connecting in hopes of hitting the big one and some day reaching their goals in this manner only results in quantity and not quality. So why in this world of lightning-speed global connectivity are many still feeling alone and getting nowhere without anyone’s help? The answer could be in the digital presence and message that you are sending to the planet. Or lack of.

Keep your digital presence as close to reality as possible. Why be someone you’re not online? Why not reveal the personable you with the professional you? Why have a profile and digital presence that reads like the syllabus of a math or business course, for instance? Why not let your website reveal a bit of the person behind the curtain, or in other words, the c-panel. There’s no need to put on airs or hide who you truly are. Just be you. Just be real. Yet there are many facets of you and writing may not be your thing especially writing that is user friendly and offers search engine visibility. It’s tough to truly express who you are online yet it’s extremely important that you do so. Lena Hunt of CelebritizeYou.com is here to help you. By letting CelebritizeYou do the work, you can focus on what you do best. “You are not alone. I am here with you.”
